5. Kid should choose what folders to put work in, and what work to put in the Backpack.
i. Projects can go in different folders depending on how the student process went for individual students. (one might say "resilient learner" while another student chose "effective communicator"
ii. Outside of school opportunities are not required, should not go in Backpack
iii. Backpack artifacts dropped in a folder, it stays as just ONE document/artifact. It can be in multiple places, if they open it in one place, it edits it in all places.
iv. Google Drive allows you to recover deleted items within a timely fashion, for errors that occur.
v. Edit/Revision History can also help students
vi. If a student deletes an artifact from their drive, it also deletes it in their Backpack
vii. If a student leaves JCPS, comes back, will their Drive and Backpack still be in existence?
viii. What happens if a kid bounces between schools, between counties?
ix. Petition to excuse- Baker (Valley specific)
x. Help students fit artifacts into where they belong- provide guidance
xi. Lab Reports are great. Pictures are great. Videos are great. Written Reflections with picture/video are needed.
xii. Add comments option to give reflection on artifacts is great.

09/13/18 PLC Minutes
Members Present: Baker, Wise, Montgomery, Vermillion, McCandless
1. Data Review
a. Quiz Results
i. Students do not know "carrying capacity"- Vermillion
ii. Students could explain what was going on just not using the term- Vermillion
iii. Students did not read the test instructions- missed #1 because they didn't read it- Wise,
McCandless, Baker, Vermillion. +1 for following directions at least.
iv. AP kids not writing the CER- Baker
v. Plants alive or not?
vi. Virus alive?
vii. Energy Pyramid- some students struggled with putting the zebra mussels in the pyramid
b. Using Infinite Campus to look at data
i. Averages are lower due to many zeroes
ii. First assessment typically lower as students adjust to grading styles
iii. Last year, students struggled with the phenomenon-based assessment. Following tests will get better.
iv. SteLLA and NGSS- biology has been trained, chemistry and physics has not been but will be using the higher level thinking like biology lessons.
v. No multiple choice!
vi. Reading graphs a concern
2. Next Week's Lessons
a. Lessons, Teacher's Guide, and Student workbook are in the drive. Unit 2- Natural Selection.
b. Students may struggle with field guide- Do the reading and highlight as a class. Lesson 3
c. Aquarium math may pose a challenge as well- Lesson 3
d. Teacher guide to math- review before the lesson
e. Four factor chart- KEY to the unit, make sure you hit this hard with students.
f. Focus question on workbook page- return to the focus question at the end to reflect (Vermillion)
g. Lesson 4- will take 90 minutes, use block day
i. Chromebook issue- using program not possible.
ii. Wise sent simulation link
iii. You can run the simulation one day, and do the analysis the second day
iv. Go over 4 factors, run one sim, go over variables- One day.
v. Figure out what is causing the issue- can condense to one day

a. Baker- Finches reading or Tortoise reading

e. Lesson Study- note-taking of teacher-student interactions
